Surgical techniques and possibilities are progressing all the time. Joint replacements and complex orthopaedic procedures are now available for dogs and just like for human patients physiotherapy helps minimise complications from surgery and maximise results.
Before surgery we can get your dog as strong and fit as possible so they are ready for surgery and already a step ahead with recovery. Immediately after surgery physiotherapy helps reduce pain, swelling and bruising and promotes efficient tissue healing. Whilst protecting healing structures and ensuring safety we can get muscles working and joints moving again. As recovery progresses it is important to encourage proper movement patterns and progressively guide the dog towards a full functional recovery. If appropriate we may work with hydrotherapists or perform physiotherapy in water in order to regain function whilst reducing weight bearing stress.
